Romans 15:13
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him,
so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Our God is a
God who fills us with everything good in all the aspects of life, wherever and
whenever we lack. I believe that the definition of blessing is “Joy, peace and contentment”
in every aspect of life just like the Psalmist said “The
Lord is my shepherd and I shall not want”. A person is completely
blessed if he has joy, peace and contentment in all that God has given (with no
lacking of anything) - family, job, finance, personal life and spiritual life.
As a matter of fact, nothing in this world can give us constant joy and peace -
but can only increase our greed for more and discontentment with what
we have already received. But, God, our heavenly Father promises to fill
us, when we realize that we lack somewhere and when we run to HIM for help.
Some may
have enough money but still lack the inner peace, others may have the peace
even though they make their living by meager wages. So, it is not what
we have that gives us happiness but the feeling of contentment with
everything that we've already received from God, that gives us peace and
joy. But I admit that we do fall short in some place at some point of time in
our lives - financially, materially, physically, emotionally or even
spiritually. It is not the thing we lack which causes unrest in our
minds, but the “vacuum” that it leaves in our heart. Only God can fill the
vacuum in our hearts and when HE fills it, irrespective of what we have or what we lack, we would have contentment
and peace that we never even imagined before. We often have a common
misconception that we'd become happy once that "lacking" is
filled by what we think we need and we'd in no doubt be shocked when we
come to the realization that God filled that vacuum and somehow everything
seems perfect - even without that “thing” which we thought was necessary to
make us happy. So, I believe that joy, peace and contentment can come only by
the divine presence of God - Nothing of this world can bring true happiness and
peace.
The world has its own schemes of renewing human minds
with a false promise of giving peace and joy - All kinds of entertainment,
malls, restaurants and the like. But very often we feel that these very things
which are meant to entertain us, leaves our hearts more empty, void and more
lacking of "peace". Whatever we may lack now, whatever we may be in
need of - may be a great friend to share everything with, may be peace and
happiness in our professional life, may be a fullness of joy in family life, or
may be spiritual contentment - the only SOLUTION that I know of is JESUS - the
God who can fill us with divine peace, which surpasses our human knowledge!
Just calling upon HIM during our times of need and trusting in HIM that
HE will set everything right - is all that is required from our part! I've been
living this practically a lot of times and I almost jump for joy when God
wonderfully answers my prayers and fills my heart with peace. But one might
ask, why does God first allow a lacking of peace in the first place, and then,
fill it with HIS divine joy when we trust in HIM? I believe that if we were
given everything, we would not rely on a wonderful God who created us, we would
not know of a beautiful divine relationship that God wants to establish with
us. Only when we have problems, unrest and "lacking", do we rely on
the MOST HIGH GOD, who loves and enjoys the relationship with us!
Christian walk is not a religion or a
theology - it is a relationship with the God, who created us, in which there is
so much trust, love and peace! When this divine peace fills our hearts,
we would be in need of no other material stuff, emotional support or spiritual
counseling or encouragement. God alone is that "peace" who can fill the vacuum of our
hearts! It’s the greatest blessing to be in a sweet relationship with this
wonderful Savior - Jesus - where love, trust and peace abound! As the psalm
goes.. “Oh, taste and see
that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!”
